Attracting hummingbirds to your backyard
Hummingbirds are found almost everywhere in the north and south American continents. They fly south towards the equator for the summer and then north again when the winter is over in the USA and Canada. They are delightful little birds that are fearless when it comes to larger birds and cats.
Many people think that by just getting a hummingbird feeder and filling it with hummingbird food it will attract the little birds on it’s own. That will only work if the feeder is surrounded by other factors such as the right plants that attract hummingbirds.
So how can you attract the birds to your feeder? You should plant the types of flowers that hummingbirds are attracted to. Those include many trumpet type flowers such as the trumpet vine, fuchsias and petunias. Honey suckle vines and plants with small red or yellow flowers also work out great as hummingbird attractors.
Once you have set up your hummingbird feeders don’t move them around since the hummingbirds will learn their location and visit it often. Keep the feeder clean. Wipe it down, removing the sticky liquid that dries on it. Doing that will discourage wasps from visiting the feeder.
