Pet food is costing you more

You remember when tuna for humans use to come in a 6 ounce can? Not long ago the food companies decided to sell the tuna in a 5 ounce can. The price stayed the same or in some cases even rose up. The same thing is happening to dry pet foods.
I remember when cat food use to come in 20 pound bags. Then they were reduced to 18 pounds. Now they are at 16 or 17.6 pounds and the prices are still going up. Dog food on the other hand has stayed at the 40 pound and 20 pound bag sizes with a few companies trying to change that.
I was purchasing alfalfa pellets for my horses a few months back and one company lowered the bag size from 50 to 40 pounds. Another feed store was still selling the 50 pound bags but they upped the price by a dollar. Now I had to get out my calculator to see which store had the best price. The 50 pound bag was selling the pellets at .19 cents a pound while the 40 pound bag was selling the pellets at .22 cents a pound. The 50 pound bag was cheaper.
Now here comes the challenge - I want to know if you shop with your calculator to see if you are getting the best price for your pet food. Have you noticed that the bags are getting smaller and the prices are getting higher?
I really wonder when it will end, or if it will. Don’t these companies realize we are in a deep recession if not a actual depression? They will eventually cut their own throats by jacking up prices so high that they will go out of business.
